National PTA and Everytown for Gun Safety have joined forces to help protect children and youth from gun violence and save lives to influence policy and planning decisions related to gun violence prevention and school safety and preparedness.

Secure all guns in your homes and vehicles


Model responsible behavior around guns


Ask about unsecured guns in other homes


Recognize the role of guns in suicide


Tell your peers to Be SMART

National PTA advocates for

  • Funding federal research on the causes and effects of gun violence on youth and communities, as well as evidence-based strategies to reduce gun violence

  • Establishing education programs to teach students, parents and community members about gun safety and violence prevention

  • Requiring a waiting period and comprehensive background check for all individuals prior to buying a firearm

  • Restricting internet gun sales, including kits that can be used to make and modify guns

  • Banning access to military-style semi-automatic assault weapons
